Vernissage November 5, 2025
The exhibition will be on display at länsmuseet from November 5, 2025 to August 16, 2026
Retrospective exhibition
The artist Bengt Lindström would have turned 100 in 2025, which Jamtli is marking with an extensive retrospective exhibition. In the exhibition, we meet Bengt Lindström through his work, from his school days through works where he searches for his form and expression to the colorful large paintings with pasty color that have made him well-known even internationally.
Bengt Lindström was born in Storsjö kapell here in Jämtland and died in 2008 in Sundsvall. For many years, he worked closely with Curt Aspelin, who printed his lithographs and has also written several books about Lindström. The exhibition is based entirely on Aspelin's rich collection of art by Bengt Lindström and is also arranged in collaboration with the Zorn Collections in Mora and the Jämtland County Art Association.
A warm welcome to Jamtli!

On August 29–31, 2025, we held this year's first art exhibition at Storsjö Prästgård in Storsjö kapell, Bengt Lindström's birthplace. The theme of the exhibition was "The 1940s".
Lindström's paintings from the 1940s
September 3, 2025, marked 100 years since Bengt Lindström was born in Storsjö kapell. We celebrated this milestone with a three-day art exhibition at Storsjö Prästgård, showcasing a selection of Bengt Lindström's oil paintings and drawings from the 1940s.
At the same time, Storsjö church was open with a special viewing of Bengt Lindström's oil painting "The Descent from the Cross" from 1966 and the church's magnificent interior in Härjedalsrokoko style, made by local woodcarvers. Bygdens Café in Storsjö village hall served coffee, homemade cakes, sandwiches and light lunches. Storsjö Fiskecamp provided accommodation and a fully licensed restaurant and musical entertainment in honor of Bengt Lindström.

Bengts New Year's greetings

Every year for 50 years, Bengt Lindström always made a new series of New Year's lithographs with a personal New Year's greeting that he sent to his friends and business contacts. However, one year it was forgotten – that year he sent a midsummer greeting instead.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The first preview was in Storsjö kapell and the second in Mora.
September 2 - 3, 2017
I'm very pleased with the first preview in Storsjö kapell, the artist's birthplace. What an experience it has been! Great to meet so many Bengt Lindström art lovers.
December 1 - 3, 2017
It has been a great experience to show Bengt Lindström for the Mora audience. In Mora we were able to display 47 large art pieces by Bengt Lindström. All the paintings made a fantastic impact when displayed side by side.

The artist
Bengt Lindström
Like all other great artists, Bengt Lindström was very productive and arranged annual exhibitions in many places around the world. His use of strong colors and rapid, powerful brushstrokes prompted the Italians to call him The North Wind, “Vento del Nord”.
Bengt Lindström used dramatic colors in his paintings. Colors and shapes work together to reproduce powerful expressions. Bengt used to say, "The colors in my paintings are those that are found at home in Norrland when the snow is gone. Blue is the mountains, red is the autumn landscape, green and yellow are the spring and summer.
Bengt Lindström was born on September 3, 1925 in the small mountain village of Storsjö kapell, in Härjedalen, Norrland, Sweden. He grew up in this mythical wilderness with mountains, lakes, forests and animals. The local lumberjacks and the Sámi people told him many stories revealing the legends and mysteries of the Great North. His father's close friend, Kråik, chieftain of the nearby Sámi village, was also Bengt's godfather. Just after Bengt was born, Kråik performed the ceremony, "Baptism of the earth," during which Bengt was moved trough the roots of a dead tree to ensure that the spirits would protect him from the perils of life.

Storsjö kapell is a genuine mountain village in Ljungdalsfjällen, Norrland, Sweden. About 100 inhabitants live here today. The village has a beautiful church with a large and unique oil painting by Bengt Lindström in the sacristy, a gift to the village people from the artist in 1968. Storsjö kapell is a wonderful spot for fishing, mountain hiking, bird watching, holidays in the wilderness, Bengt Lindström excursions, relaxation, art, and culture.
